There are five classifications of Membership in the National Dance Teachers Association of America:
FULL MEMBERSHIP
- Individuals who have met all the requirements for membership, have completed one year of teaching ballroom dancing and have
all current dues paid on or before January 1st of each year. (Open to non U.S. Citizens)
HONORARY MEMBERSHIP - May
be awarded to any person who has made some significant contribution to the objective of this organization of the dance profession.
Nominations for Honorary Membership shall be presented in writing by three members in good standing to the Board for action
and to the Grand Body for approval.
AUXILIARY MEMBERSHIP - Any individual who has not yet met the requirements for
Full Membership but who is in teacher training, a teacher's assistant or a professional dance partner shall be entitled to
membership upon payment of current dues on or before January 1st of each year.
NON-PARTICIPATING - Any individual
who fulfills the requirements for Full Membership but who restricts their participation in N.D.T.A. activities by payment
of reduced dues.
STUDIO - Staff members of dance studios who have met all requirements for membership; providing the
owner maintains Full Membership.
Members must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and should be recommended by
an N.D.T.A. member in good standing.
Before being accepted as a member, all candidates must take a written exam which
is given to verify the applicant's knowledge of the basic concepts of ballroom and related dances. However, the organization
does offer a free study guide which is available prior to taking the exam. (Proof of proficiency certificates in other organizations
recognized by the N.D.C.A. may be accepted as proof of proficiency and the examination may be waived.)
